Max
Male, 3-4 year of age, 72 pounds
Max is a Shepherd/Husky mix who requires a home with a female owner only. I received a phone call from the person who surrendered him to the shelter where Max was rescued. The former owner noted that Max was abused by a man who she knew. To get Max into a safe situation, she agreed to take Max. He obviously has not had a good start to his life. Max has been with the rescue for over a year. He is terrified of men to a degree in which I have never seen before. Based on this, Max is only available through a private meeting. During adoption open houses Max cowers, whines, and hides in a corner.
Max has the common husky stubborn demeanor with the GSD mouthiness. He wants truly to receive love and affection yet isn't sure how to receive this at times. He has the overall temperament that I like to describe as "squirrely". He's good with other dogs but can come on a bit strong for dogs that aren't confident.
Max's best chance of success is: Female-only home, mature children, person experienced with both the GSD and Husky breed. A home that can provide ample room to run as this combination of breed has lots of energy. A person who is patient and is willing to put in the time to train Max but with only POSITIVE reinforcement. He's been through enough negative reactions by his first owner. As mentioned, Max uses his mouth quite a bit but not in an aggressive manner. Mouthiness should be a concern with those who have young children. Once in a home with consistency, training, and less stress Max's behavior should only improve. Max is housebroken. He should not be with small pets such as cats, rabbits, etc.
Adoption Fee: $200 which includes Martngale Collar, Neuter, Rabies,DHPPA, Bordetella/Heartworm Test/ Hook and Round Deworming, Microchip, Heartworm and Flea Preventative.
